We have organized this event for the past 5 years. It started as a fundraiser for the FDNY Widow's and Children's Fund. The following year, and the last 4, it has been a fundraiser for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. We are one of the initial "stair climb" events in the US. Now there are many dozens across the US. More information on these climbs can be found on the NFFF site.
Due to the tremendous amount of work that goes into planning and executing an event of this nature, our limited staff can no longer put in the work needed to pull it off. Despite pleas to our partners and participants, additional help has not materialized.
As a result, the 2013 hike will likely be our final event. On behalf of the organizers and volunteers who tirelessly worked on this event for the past 5 years, I want to thank you all for your generous support. We have raised thousands of dollars that will directly benefit the grieving families of fallen firefighters across the US. We all look forward to seeing you at one of the other Stair Climb events in the future.
Thanks for hiking with us and be safe!
