Join us on September 11, 2013 for the 5th annual (and possibly final) Firefighter 14’er Memorial Challenge!
This year we will be hiking Mt. Bierstadt in Clear Creek County near Idaho Springs.
We have organized this event for the past 5 years. It started as a fundraiser for the FDNY Widow's and Children's Fund. The following year, and the last 3, it has been a fundraiser for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. We are one of the initial "stair climb" events in the US. Now there are many dozens across the US. More information on these climbs can be found on the NFFF site.
Due to the tremendous amount of work that goes into planning and executing an event of this nature, our limited staff can no longer put in the work needed to pull it off. Despite pleas to our partners and participants, additional help has not materialized.
As a result, we have decided to go back to our roots this year with an informal event. In fact, we are not calling it an "event" at all since that triggers responsibilities with the US Forest Service. This year, we are taking voluntary donations of any amount. ALL of these donations (every penny) will be going to help the families and survivors of the tragedy in West, Texas.
No T-shirts, no sponsored BBQ, no coffee - just people that want to get together and enjoy a beautiful Colorado morning hiking one of our 14'ers. No reservations needed! No donations needed (though West, TX will appreciate them). Just show up and hike!
